Aluminium Alloy 6061 T6

Aluminium alloy 6061 is a medium to high strength heat-treatable alloy and the most widely used of the 6000 series. It combines good mechanical strength with excellent corrosion resistance, very good weldability and good machinability, which is why it appears in everything from structural work to marine fittings. Magnesium and silicon are its principal alloying elements. 6061-T6 is solution heat treated and then artificially aged. The closely related T651 temper adds stress relief by stretching, which lowers residual stress and gives a flatter, more stable plate for heavy machining; both tempers share the same specified strength minima. Where higher strength is needed in the same series, alloy 6082 has largely superseded 6061 in structural applications.

Applications for Aluminium Alloy 6061
